Northampton Saints hooker Curtis Langdon says his team feel they are good enough to win silverware this season, but he knows they cannot look too far ahead.Â
Phil Dowson’s side are still fighting on two fronts. They sit atop of the Gallagher Premiership and also find themselves in the Champions Cup semi-final’s.
Speaking to members of the media yesterday, Langdon said there is a genuine feeling of belief in the squad: “We definitely believe in ourselves here. We believe we’ve got the quality to go on and win things.
He added: “I think you can see that in recent performances as well. Going in at half-time this weekend down on the scoreboard; but for not one part of that game did we not believe that we couldn’t go on and win the game. Another game that comes to mind was Munster away, obviously, down to 14 men, behind on the scoreboard, still believing we can get the job done away at a top club.”
“Every week is a big week”-Curtis Langdon on not looking too far ahead
The Saints are playing some truly fantastic rugby recently. They have won nine of their last 10 matches in all competitions, and in their last two games have scored 99 points.
This could lead any side to get carried away, but Langdon insists his team are focusing on the here and now.
” I don’t think it’s that hard to focus on just every every week as it comes at the moment. Every game is a big game. You look at this weekend we’ve got Harlequins at Twickenham. It’s a must-win game for Quins, but we want to finish top of the league and get that home semi. We don’t need much geared up going into these games now.”
He added: Every week is a big week and we know we need to keep this momentum going if we are serious about winning trophies this year. We believe we can do it but we need to back it up.”
He also detailed the strong competition within the squad that is driving them to success: “You want to win every game you play. Dows has rotated the squad a little bit over the last two weeks. We believe we’ve got strong depth here at the Saints. Training is competitive every week, boys are chomping at the bit to play.
He added: “These games coming up are games that everyone in the squad is desperate to play in. So when you rotate the squad and lads get an opportunity, they want to put their hand up.”
