Record crowds flock to Premiership festive fixtures

Premiership Rugby have confirmed the festive fixtures saw record stadium attendances and viewing figures on TV in a much needed boost for the sport.

In a statement released today, Premiership Rugby have confirmed 212,571 fans attended fixtures across rounds nine and 10.

This impressive figure includes 152,101 just from round 10, which is the highest average attendance for a single round of Premiership fixtures.

Across the 10 fixtures over the festive period, there were sell-outs for Exeter Chiefs, Bath Rugby, Saracens, Northampton Saints and Leicester Tigers. Bristol Bears also recorded their biggest post-covid attendance, and Sale Sharks and Gloucester were nearly sold out too.

It wasn’t just in the stadiums where fans turned out in their droves, as a combined peak audience of 1.8 million fans tuned into watch across TNT Sports, Discovery+ and ITV 4.

In another piece of good news for the Premiership, this year’s best viewing figures on TNT Sports and discovery+ were also beaten twice.

The first came in the Bath and Harlequins match in round nine, but that was quickly beaten by Northampton Saints victory over Sale just one week after in round 10.

These impressive viewing figures were also TNT largest ever regular season audience since round 13 of the 2021/2022 season.

In a statement, Simon Massie-Taylor, Chief Executive Officer of Premiership Rugby, said: “To break attendance and broadcast records during our blockbuster festive fixtures shows just how passionate and dedicated our Gallagher Premiership Rugby fans are.”

He added: “It’s great to see supporters turning up in big numbers – and the impressive figures for both TNT Sports and ITV show that this season continues to produce unmissable entertainment.”

Social media interactions were also boosted across the festive period, with Massie-Taylor stating: “our social audiences continue to grow and with impressions of just under 11 million for Round 10 – up 30 per cent – as our digital platforms continue to highlight all of the drama.
