Northampton Saints have today announced CEO Mark Darbon will be stepping down from his post in November.

Darbon has been in his role for the past seven years, and assisted the rapid transformation of the club to once again become champions.

He oversaw the initial appointment of Chris Boyd as Saints Director of Rugby, and also investing into the Saints pathways. He also assisted in the transition from Boyd to current Director of Rugby Phil Dowson, who has since led Northampton to a Premiership title.

In a statement, Darbon said: “Leaving Northampton Saints has been an incredibly difficult decision for me to make,” said Darbon. “Over the last seven years my family and I have loved our time in Northampton, and developed a passion and attachment for Saints which will stay with us forever.”

“I am very proud of what we have achieved during my tenure. Rugby has faced some significant challenges, but the Club is well positioned to continue to be successful into the future, on and off the pitch, whilst remaining at the centre of our local community in Northampton.”

“It has been a real team effort, and I have relied on the support of the Club’s owners, board of Directors, shareholders, partners, players, staff and supporters throughout my time here.”

John White, Chairman at Northampton Saints, added: “Mark has done a fantastic job during his seven years leading the Club, and leaves Saints in a very strong position for the future – on and off the pitch.

“He has helped us to cultivate an incredibly talented group of players, coaches, and support staff who know how to win games of rugby, and a commercial staff who know our business inside out. So, I have no doubt they all will continue to drive the Club forwards after Mark’s departure.”

Whilst he will no longer be club CEO, Darbon will remain a member of the Northampton Saints board as Non-Executive Director.
