Jonny May and Dave Ribbans to play for the Barbarians

Former England internationals Jonny May and Dave Ribbans will both play for the Barbarians against Fiji this summer. 

Gloucester winger May and Toulon lock Ribbans both last represented England at the World Cup, and will both represent the world’s most historic club for the first time.

Commenting on joining up with the Barbarians, May said: “The Barbarians are a team you grow up watching and hoping you might get the opportunity to play for one day.”

He added: “This is a team that everyone is always interested to watch. It’s an honour and a privilege for me to be involved.”

May made his England debut in 2013, and went onto win 78 caps for his country. May also notched 36 tries too.

He has previously played against the Barbarians on three seperate occasions in 2013, 2017 and 2022.

Also speaking on the announcement, Ribbans said: “It’s really exciting to be considered for selection for the Barbarians – one of the most historic and well-known rugby clubs in the world.”

Ribbans made his international debut back in 2022, and went onto win 11 caps.

The pair will also join former England internationals Ben Youngs, Jonathan Joseph and Danny Care, as well as May’s Gloucester teammate Zach Mercer in Robbie Dean’s invitational team.

The clash against Fiji is part of an international double header at Twickenham on Saturday 22nd June, with Wales vs South Africa also taking place on the same day.

Over 50,000 people have already secured their seats for the biggest rugby showcase of the summer. Tickets for the clash are on sale now from Ticketmaster, Ticketek or the RFU and also include entry to the Qatar Airways Cup showdown between South Africa and Wales. The two international heavyweights go toe-to-toe at 2.00pm, ahead of Barbarians vs Fiji.
