Promising Harlequins prop Fin Baxter has had a whirlwind 2023/2024 campaign so far, but the fledgling star is certainly taking it all in his stride.

Baxter, 22, has already spent four seasons in the Harlequins senior set-up; but this year he has really made a name for himself as one of the best up-and-coming loosehead’s in the Premiership.

Speaking to members of the media today, he detailed how he has ‘loved this year’: “I’ve loved this year. Getting lots of minutes has been awesome for me, awesome for my game, and it’s really opened my eyes to areas that I can get better in.”

He added: “At the start of the year I was looking a lot at taking the ball moving, using my hands, being more than just a tuck-up-the-jumper kind of carrier, and it’s really helped me expose parts of my game which I’ve been really thankful for.”

Baxter’s form for Quins this season has seen him thrust into the international spotlight, starting for England A in their 91-5 win over Portugal.

He is becoming a quality loosehead in his own right, but he also finds himself working alongside one of the best loosehead’s in the world, Joe Marler, and Baxter detailed how the experienced England international has taken him under his wing.

“He (Joe Marler) is a massive help to me. Any little thing he sees in the week or in training, he will pick me up on it; and that’s what I’m really grateful for, those little bits of knowledge.

He added: “It is those little bits that make the biggest difference I feel, because I feel like I’ve made some really big steps in the last four seasons that I’ve been a professional, but those little nuance bits are where I’m going to get the most gains now and him and Bomb (Adam Jones) pick that up with me all the time. It’s been really great.”
