Danny Care becomes latest Englishman to join the Barbarians squad for Fiji clash

Harlequins and England scrum-half Danny Care has become the forth Englishman to join the Barbarians ranks for their clash with Fiji.

Harlequins and England scrum-half Danny Care has become the forth Englishman to join the Barbarians ranks for their clash with Fiji.

Care, 37, played against the Barbarians for England on five separate occasions, but he will now don the famous black and white hoops for the first time this summer.

Speaking on the invitation to join the historic club, Care said: “I’m absolutely over the moon to be chosen to represent the Barbarians this summer,” he said.

“You don’t get too many firsts at this stage of your career, but this has been a long time coming! It’s nearly happened a few times over the last few years, but now the stars have aligned and I cannot wait to finally wear that famous black and white shirt.”

“It’s hard to pinpoint what I am most excited about, as I’m really looking forward to experiencing the whole week. I’ve heard so many amazing stories from really good friends of mine who have done it before.

The test against Fiji could be Care’s final ever game at Twickenham, after his retirement from international rugby was confirmed this week, but he says running out on the hallowed turf one last time will be a special moment: “To do it at Twickenham as well is going to be so, so
special for me.”

Care will once again link-up with former England teammates Ben Youngs, Jonathan Joseph and Zach Mercer in the Barbarians squad.
