Benhard Janse van Rensburg named Premiership Player of the Month

Bristol Bears centre Benhard Janse van Rensburg has been named Premiership Player of the Month for April.

The back won 58% of the vote, and beat Owen Farrell, Tom Parton and Tyrone Green to the award.

He becomes the sixth player to win the award this season, joining Ollie Sleightholme, Fin Smith, Courtney Lawes, Ollie Lawrence and Ben Spencer on the honour roll. He is the first Bear to receive the award this season.

Benhard Janse Van Rensburg notched two tries in the Bears’ 85-14 thrashing of Newcastle Falcons, and he played a major part in their comeback win against Leicester Tigers.

In a statement, Andy Ferguson, Managing Director of Gallagher’s Bristol Office, said: “Since joining Bristol Bears last summer, Benhard has gone from strength to strength and has made some fantastic calls on the pitch. He has really made an impact on the team and certainly played a big role in Bristol’s recent success up against Newcastle Falcons and Leicester Tigers.”

The South African native was also nominated for the award back in March, however lost out to Sleightholme.

He joined Bristol this season following the collapse of London Irish, and has gone from strength to strength in the West Country. So far this season, van Rensburg has made 23 appearances for the Bears, starting in all of them. He has also scored three tries and kicked two conversions.

He also becomes eligible for England next season on residency grounds.
